GET INVOLVED – Family Violence Prevention Services
The key to our overall success is a strong connection with the local community. Your support and participation are vital to helping the SHCC continue providing services to women and children whose lives have been affected by family violence. There are many ways you can help:
-
VOLUNTEER: We have a committed group of volunteers and wouldn’t want to imagine working without them, but we need more! We want to train and support an active, energetic, and committed volunteer base. Will, you consider becoming an SHCC volunteer? Answering phones, assisting with childcare, and sorting and organizing donated items are just a few of the important tasks where help is needed; see Volunteer Opportunities for more information.
-
MAKE A FINANCIAL GIFT: The Shelter Home of Caldwell County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that needs dedicated financial partners. While a portion of our budget comes from grants, we rely heavily on gifts from individual donors. All donations are 100% tax-deductible and every dollar makes a difference. Will you consider donating to SHCC today? Donate here.
-
DONATE ITEMS: Many SHCC residents arrive with nothing but the clothes they are wearing, so there’s always an immediate need for clothing and toiletry items. Helping residents begin a new life is also a part of our mission, so donations of household items like dishes, appliances, and furniture are also needed. For more information, see Wish List and Second Hand Boutique.
TESTIMONIALS
“Volunteering at the Shelter Home is a blessing of great joy to me. My job is to do anything—clean, put labels on envelopes, answer the phone, monitor security cameras and doors, whatever needs to be done. One of my favorites is to visit with children and hold babies. But I’m working undercover. My real purpose is hugs, listening and praying for staff and residents. Sharing love and encouragement and the peace of God is what I really try to do.”
“When I first came to the shelter, I felt alone. Abandoned. How could this happen to me? Now I realize that being here was a divine appointment. Being here gave me the opportunity to stop and face myself, my mistakes and the fears that were crippling me.”
